Potential Damages
If you have suffered water damage, you should be aware of the following:
-
A building is not dry once the visible water is gone. It can take an
additional 5-6 weeks to completely dry out, even with dehumidification
measures.
-
Water can reside undetected under floors, causing rot and deterioration to
building foundations.
-
Water penetrates electronic equipment and electrical conduits causing long term
corrosion and electrical safety hazards.
-
Fresh water can pick up chemical contaminants including asbestos from building
surfaces, which can be harmful when deposited on sensitive electronic
equipment.
-
Sewage back surges and deep water flooding carry the potential for serious
health hazards.
-
The water from burst heating pipes is potentially corrosive and could cause
skin burns.
-
Salt water is extremely corrosive and will attack all metal surfaces.
-
Books and documents that become wet will suffer mold growth and subsequent
deterioration very quickly.
A Wet Environment must be stabilized
One of the most traumatic disaster occurrences facing home owners, insurance
companies and property managers is water damage. Water damage restoration
is a significant part of our insurance restoration division. Most fire
restoration projects have extensive water damage. Broken water pipes and
plumbing backups are also very common.
Whether caused by a natural or man-made disaster, moisture is a fast and silent
destroyer of furnishings, equipment and building interiors. The results
of the damage are costly repairs and often replacement or reconstruction.
Timing is crucial to the dehumidification of a building and the prevention of
the growth of destructive mold and mildew.
How We Can Help...
Our customers are guaranteed the best service and a quality job. We have
the equipment necessary to extract excessive water in addition to commercial
grade dehumidifiers and carpet fans, which are needed to completely dry out the
affected areas.
Dry-out procedures are extremely important in water damage cases; a total
assessment of the damages can only be made after the dry-out. Once
dry-out is complete and the damage assessment made, we can go ahead with all of
the necessary repairs and reconstruction.
Midstates Home Solutions can dramatically reduce the scope of damage and save
thousands of dollars in replacement costs. Using the sophisticated,
portable, commercial dehumidification equipment, Midstates can quickly and
efficiently return the humidity and moisture levels, of any building, back to
normal. The rapid removal of excess moisture will help avoid permanent
damage which would occur if left untreated.
The Specifics
After flooding has occurred, the area directly affected by the water is not the
only one at risk. Water-soaked areas create a high ambient humidity,
which can negatively impact undamaged areas and their contents. In fact,
high levels of moisture content in the air can do as much damage as direct
water contact.
If left unprotected, materials that naturally absorb moisture from the air
quickly become damaged. For example: books grow mold on their covers,
woodwork swells and buckles, and electrical systems and electronic
equipment begin to corrode.
To mitigate damage, it is imperative that the environmental conditions in the
water damaged areas be brought under control as quickly as possible. This
is done by reducing the relative humidity in the area to under 40% RH and the
temperature to 72 degrees F.
It is also crucial that areas not directly affected by the water intrusion are
sealed off. We create a "blanket of dry air” in these areas, so the
ambient moisture is successfully kept at bay.
Midstates Home Solutions is certified in the application of dehumidification
technology. Our battery of drying equipment is capable of controlled
drying of homes and contents on site.
We understand for drying to be effective, an immediate response that gets the
wet environment under control is imperative. By quickly reducing the
humidity and temperature levels, water damage and the potential for mold growth
is temporarily stopped until a long-term solution can be implemented.
Water-damaged structures and materials are dried using professional
dehumidification equipment. This specialized equipment surrounds the
water-damaged area with dehumidified air. The dry air extracts moisture
from the wet objects, surfaces, and materials. When set up properly, the
dehumidifiers reduce the vapor pressure allowing the water soaked material to
release its water molecules, accelerating the evaporation process.
Drying is a science requiring an understanding of the dynamics of ambient
conditions, how to create and control the ideal environment, and how to manage
the process through to successful completion. Tracking hidden moisture
and monitoring moisture content are two key aspects of determining when
materials have been returned to their standard moisture levels. Daily
reports showing moisture readings and drying progress are necessary throughout
the project.
